I'm home from WHC 2008, despite entanglements with hordes of infected, diabolical government agents, armored anacro-luddite separatists, and Scottish punk rock hotrod cannibals (or was that just the Neil Marshall flick we caught on Monday?). I met some great people, picked up a few books (reviews coming), and took a bunch of pictures. But first... the quote of the weekend:

"Are you musicians?"
"No ma'am. We're publishers."

Inspiration strikes Jeremy Lassen while visiting the hotel bar.

The Night Shade Books table in the dealers' room.

Stack 'o Wastelands.

Sticker on an air conditioner, spotted while walking to Alberto's: "Send 'em like they're toys."

A demon guards the second floor. Maybe that's what kept the mundanes away.

Jeremy gets ready to talk to the local press. Anybody care to find a clip?

Trash can face.

Jeremy snaps posse pictures. And yes, he plugs that suit in at night.

Pajama party in full swing.

Jeremy at the pajama party. He's a braver man than me.

Donnie, AKA "Hell on Wheels." One of the local fan volunteers.

Lady Pyra, another SLC fan. Believe it or not, these two were working security.

A sign of the times.

Carlton Mellick III and Rose O'Keefe from Eraserhead Press.

One of the hotel's ubiquitous flatscreens, always tuned to Fox News...

...fortunately, Jeremy managed to find the OFF button.

The hearse in front of the hotel...

...complete with sign. "No place to hide under the desert sun..." Desert? Ha! It snowed!

SLC's library (which I hear is awesome, but we were walking past on Sunday. "Read..."

SLC graffiti: horned businessman.

SLC sign face.

Jeremy Lassen meets the Crawling Chaos.

Crawling Chaos detail.

Piano accompaniment during the (Un-)Dead Dog Party.

Jeremy Lassen and Jude Feldman guard the bar.

SLC snow.

SLC parking meter face.

Murphy's. About as good as it gets for SLC dive bars.

The "What Were We Thinking" cafe, which is, of course, empty.

Jeremy is swallowed by a monster.

Bad dandruff.

Joseph Smith is blessed by Gandalf the Grey, Saruman the White, and Radagast the Brown...

And here's Alan Lee's Isengard... no, wait... sorry, it's the Mormon Temple.

Jeremy photographs a door.

Jesus has cold feet.

Flowers peek up through the snow.

Cool pics! I espcially like the trash-can face. You've got a neat way at looking at the world and I'm so glad you share your photos with us.

I've gotta pic up a copy of Wastelands. It's on the list for the next Amazon order ...
